Peter (brother) and I had been in the area on business and were on the way home. Logically we should have been on the direct road from Ledbury to the M5, but hillwalkers are drawn to hills and we aimed for The Malverns to see them at close hand. Time and ground conditions allowed for a short walk.

Malvern Hills

We parked opposite The Malvern Hills Hotel at a P&D car park. An information board had a scale map on show and it looked like 1,000m on the out leg in the shadow and much the same on the way back along the ridge of The Herefordshire Beacon / British Camp. Here is the view of the northern section of The Malvern Hills - to be saved for another day.

Hangman Hill

Hangman's Hill

Looking south to Hangman's Hill with the Eastnor Obelisk also in view. We are now within the works of the British Camp c.700BC.

The Malverns

A full ridge walk will be about 10 miles - and then you'll have to find a way back - the railway could be an option, with stations at Great Malvern and Colwall.

Smart Work

Most, if not all the folk we met up here had dogs with them. It is a superb place for walkers and dogs, exceptional views in all directions.

On the way back to the car park we bumped into one of our longstanding friends in the trade, we missed him earlier, so it was nice to find him here, not far from his home in Trumpet!
